Bud and Kathy (both nicknames) Carney
2. Where are you from?
From Illinois, but spent the last 30 years in Mountain Home, Arkansas.
3. What is your occupation?
Bud was a lawyer and Kathy was a legal assistant. Before being a lawyer, Bud
was Green Beret.
4. Describe the name and make of your boat.
Invictus IV. Steel Amazon. Invictus means unconquered in Latin.
5. Briefly describe your sailing experience.
We've sailed down the west coast of the US, all over the Caribbean to South
America and Central America, sailed to Europe, through the Med in Turkey, and
then back across the Atlantic, through the Canal and now we are on Aaron's boat.
6. What are your future sailing plans?
Hell if I know. Keep going west for the next week. Try to get to Tahiti. Get
to Turkey and sell the boat.
7. If you could sail anywhere in the world, where would it be?
This is as good as it gets. The South Pacific is the name of the game.
8. If you could choose any four people to cross an ocean with, who would they
be?
Kathy: Bud, son, daughter,
Bud: Will Durant, Joshua Slocum because he's done it, Bertrand Russell,
9. If Jesus won the boat in a poker match, what changes would he make?
My God. He wouldn't worry about the food since he would have fish and bread
for everyone. So the waterline would be better and there would always be wind.
10. How did you spend those long days during the passages in the Pacific?
Reading books, playing scrabble
actually you have very little time between
sleep and repairing what items need to be repaired.
11. What is the Arkansas chant?
Whoeey-pig-suiy.
13. Where is the best place that you have sailed so far?
Turkey and Sicily. Marquesas and Panama were nice, but Turkey was the best because
of the people, the climate, and the sailing was great.
12. Will Aaron make it around the world?
